International experts in geoscience from the EU-funded AGEO project to conduct a workshop on Geohazard Risk Management on October 7th 2022 in Dublin (University College Dublin)

The AGEO INTERREG ATLANTIC AREA Project will have its 8th Consortium Meeting from the 6th to the
8th of October in Dublin, hosted by local partner University College Dublin (UCD). On October 7, the
session will be dedicated to a workshop on geohazards and risk management.

We cordially invite you to this workshop on 7th of October. The workshop, divided into two content
blocks, will be conducted by experts and researchers from institutions from Ireland, Northern Ireland,
France, Spain, and Portugal including: Instituto Técnico Superior Universidade de Lisboa, Associação
Portuguesa de Geólogos, La Palma Research Centre, Instituto Geológico y Minero de España,
Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, Cerema, LNEG,
Universidad de La Laguna, LNEC, Universidade da Madeira and Câmara Municipal de Lisboa.

In the first block, the focus will be on the lessons learned in each pilot, located in the Causeway Coast,
Canary Islands, Brittany, Madeira, and Lisbon. Each one of these projects is responsible for studying
different types of geohazards, such as rock falls, landslides, and coastal risks, among others. This
information will later be used to formulate recommendations for the creation of future observatories
in response to both natural and human-induced geohazards in the Atlantic region.

In the second content block, there will be specialized sessions regarding crisis management in the La
Palma volcanic eruption, an update about the AGEO platform for geohazard monitoring, and
discussions about the use of educational content to communicate about geohazards.

AGEO is a citizen science project funded by Interreg Atlantic Area, under the European Regional
Development Fund, that seeks to engage with local communities to actively participate in risk
preparedness and monitoring of geohazards and incorporate local capacities into risk management
systems. Five Citizens’ Observatory pilots are underway to gather information about geohazards
through observations using the Copernicus services, InSAR processing tools being developed by the
project members, and the AGEO app.
